Though the Gamboa family has been farming coffee since the 1800s, their Montes de Oro micro-mill has been in operation since just 2006. Today, Emilio “Milo” and his wife Laura Gamboa oversee all operations of the family’s four farms and mill.
The highest of said farms, Finca El Yasal, was added to their quiver in 1980 at which time it was but a cattle farm. It wasn’t until 2010 (no doubt thanks to the momentum of the micro-mill revolution) when the Gamboas endeavored to plant coffee on what would become - not only one of the family’s highest-elevation farms - but among the highest in all of the Tarrazu region.
Today just 5 of the farm’s 50 hectares is producing coffee which, after being picked by their well-trained team of pickers is taken to the Montes de Oro wet-mill for processing and raised-bed drying.
We believe the coffee experience is our responsibility from seed to cup. Coffee is our craft, our ritual, our passion. It drives us and inspires us. With this simple truth and responsibility we are bridging the gap from farmlevel to streetlevel. We are verve. Made in santa cruz.
