2017年にシュマバ・デ・ルルド(Sumava De Loudes)を訪れた際、フランシスコは彼の苗床にあるゲシャの若木を見せてくれましたが、その3年後にはこのユニークなリザーブロットになっていました。高い収穫高で知られていないこの品種は、シュマバで多くの収量を生産していませんが、フランシスコは愛の労働と呼んでいます。彼の希望は、それぞれの植物が愛情を持って成長し、それがコーヒーにも反映されることだと言いいました。
Boasting fruit flavors characteristic like that of a honey-processed coffee, this year’s Sumava Gesha is a celebration of Francisco Mena’s love for experimentation and innovation. On Sumava there are over 10 different varieties planted and more than six different processes he experiments with. This coffee is a pairing of the clean Costa Rican flavor profile and the Gesha variety’s notable florals in aroma and in cup presence. Upon visiting Sumava De Lourdes in 2017, Francisco showed us young Gesha trees in his nursery that three years later would be this unique Reserve Lot. Not known for their high yielding capabilities, this variety does not produce the largest yield at Sumava but is what Franciso calls a labor of love. He shared that his hope is that each plant grows with love and that is experienced in the coffee.
